BIT-9

BIT 9 – February 14, 2007

Well hello again… I hope you’ve all been having as good a time as I’ve had!

I did an opening concert on Dec. 29th in the now being remodelled Boquete Community Theatre in Boquete.  The Boquete Community Players (BCP) leased the space and plan to renovate it and build a stage, etc. so that the community of Boquete can have theatrical, musical and cultural productions and events in an appropriate atmosphere.  The work on this project is really coming along!

I also had the opportunity to play for a group of dignitaries at the Inauguration of the 35th Coffee & Flower Festival in Boquete, Panama which included the Gov. of Chiriqui, Vergilio Vergara and the Presidente de la Asemblea Nacional in Panama City (similar to the Speaker of the House in the U.S.), Elias A. Castillo.

They really enjoyed a new flamenco piece I wrote which will be on my next CD… If you liked “The Dance Of The Winds” from my first CD, I think you’ll enjoy this one even more… especially if you like fast flamenco!  It is called Pasión:

Last Tuesday, my parents and I went out for lunch and I had my guitar with me (as usual) and because of that, another customer came over and started talking to me about my guitar!  I found out that he owns a Gibson electric, AND is a huge Chet Atkins fan!

We started playing right there in the restaurant… he plays well and knows lots of the oldies!  We livened up the place and the owner and waitresses were really enjoying the music!  We’ll be getting together to jam in a couple of weeks, God willing!

My aunt Suzanne came down to visit us for a week, about two weeks ago… it was great!  We went to a local “swimming hole”.  Actually it’s kind of like a small canyon with a DEEP narrow river running through it.

The water is running slowly through it, so it was nice just sitting in our inner tubes and floating down through the canyon.  My dad got burnt up like a steamed lobster!  Ouch!  I got burnt up some too, but it was worth it.  We had a great time! I’m sure looking forward to my aunt coming again soon.

I do have some unfortunate news though… remember the guitar back that I showed you in the last BIT?

It got severely damaged by the change in climate here since the rainy season ended in addition to the stresses of the move from Costa Rica.  I had forgotten to check on it with everything going on, and the really dry winds here caused it to cup badly and it cracked!  I’ll have to dig out the other pieces I have in storage to see how they are from the move.

Now, for brighter news… I’ll be on an FM radio station in David, Panama tomorrow starting at noon for an interview plus some live guitar playing!  My music has also been getting air time on Radio Chiriqui 103.5 FM for the past 4 weeks which is also in David!  A few new doors are starting to open!

Well, I’ll close for now.  Come on back and check out the site occasionally.  I’ll be trying to post a few more photos and doing a BIT a bit more often… nice play on words, eh? 😉

Take care until next time!

God bless!
